Welcome!

Ask The Dietitian

As a dietitian, people love to ask me all sorts of questions about food. It seems like most people desire some form of validation about the foods they want to eat or are looking for reasons to try and abstain from others. Almost like a stand-up comedian’s bit about a random topic, I’ll hear… “Hey, you’re a nutritionist, right? So, what’s the deal with white bread?” That’s a totally fair question! Generations that came before me grew up during the great wonder bread extravaganza era and every American family wanted a taste of this prestigious white loaf wrapped up in thin, flexible, plastic film. A miracle! No, miracle whip is for another day… I digress.

How did we go from saluting white bread to villainizing it in a matter of a few decades? Again, that’s something for another discussion. But, the point is that people tend to love or hate a particular food or diet. They want to know which category it falls into, healthy or unhealthy, eat it or avoid at all costs. My role as a dietitian is to inform people of the pros and cons of diets, specific foods, and more often than not, demystify stories we come across through various media outlets (cough, facebook) that complicate our relationship with the very thing we need for life, food! Generally speaking, I take a diplomatic stance and provide calm to the storm of diet fads and nutrition science that spikes the neuroticism of people around the world.

Yes, you can eat that, in moderation, along with a healthy dose of fruits and vegetables, and you’ll be okay. There is no food you MUST stay away from and there is no one food that you NEED to eat every day. That being said, I’m entitled to my opinions and it’s time that I let them be known. The Chase Wellness Blog is my opportunity to share with you what I really think about the different diets and food fads out there. What do I think about intermittent fasting, ketogenic diets, superfoods, gluten-free, probiotics, and best practices on how to lose weight? Stick around and find out the best ways to Chase Wellness, improve your health, and stop wasting your time, so that you can start living a better life today!
